  MY ARTIST STATEMENT...

I am a digital artist. Most of my work is done on the computer. The tools of my trade are a Wacom Intuos4 Graphics Tablet and Photoshop.

My single-frame work is characterized by clean, dark lines, filled with vibrant colors and smooth, subtle shading. Color is central to setting the mood of the piece and bringing the characters within it to life. It is my passion. My drawings are characterized by their detailed settings and by the way light plays a dominant role in the scene. My style has been described as “cartoony.” As an artist working towards animation, the style of my artwork draws heavily on both Japanese and Western animation. I love the human figure, especially the female figure, and feature humans in most of my artwork.

My drawings are an exploration of human interaction between quirky personalities. In each drawing the characters must interact with each other and with the scene in such a way that the audience can tell what they think and feel: about each other, about that place, and about that moment in time. I focus mainly on trying to tell a story through my artwork, one that every human can relate to.

The primary issues dealt with in my artwork are, as I’ve said, the relationships between humans. The relationship between a father and daughter will be different than that of a pair of sisters, and different still from that of a pair of lovers or friends. Each relationship, each human, is unique and will interact with other humans in a unique way. I draw on my own relationships for this, as well as those of my friends and family, and the people I see around me.
